A Comparison of Glycemic Control Rates in Patients with Diabetes Between Different Centers for Diabetes Education

Abstract
Background: It is not easy to see the studies on the comparison of glycemic control rates in patients with diabetes between different kinds of diabetes education center. The aim of this study was to see the influence of different kinds of diabetes education places over the patients¡¯ glycemic control rate.

Methods: Participants were divided into two groups according to their education place on diabetes (public health center and hospital). Baseline characters between two groups were compared, using the data of risk factors affecting glycemic control. The glycemic control rate was also compared.

Results: No significant differences have been reported between two groups in diabetes mellitus family history, current drinking, diabetes mellitus treatment, education level, and marriage status. However, current smoking rate was significantly higher in hospital group than that in public health center group (P=0.04). Moreover, no significant differences have been reported between two groups in body mass index, hypertension, total cholesterol, LDL-C, fasting blood sugar, hemoglobin A1C. Nonetheless, HDL-C level was significantly higher in public health center group than that in hospital group (P=0.01). Glycemic control rate was significantly higher in hospital group than that in public health center group
(P=0.03).

Conclusion: The researcher attempted to make a comparison of glycemic control rate in patients with diabetes between different kinds of diabetes education center. The result of this study indicates that glycemic control rate is better in hospital group than that in public health center group.
